Summertime Randomness

Standard

My boys signed up for a FREE class on Robotics. The class is in danger of shutting down due to lack of participation. They need 20 kids to keep it going. This week they had three (and two were mine). The boys loved it. They built a robot car and a helicopter. Meanwhile, the football program offered at the same location had over 50 boys attending outside. *sigh* Now, I applaud those moms for enrolling their kids in a sport. My kids are actively involved in sports too. I just wish we could find 20 kids to take part in such a worthwhile program. I know the kids would love it if they were exposed to it. (My goal is to find 20 kids before next Monday. If you live in Philly and have or know a kid over the age of 7, let me know and I will send you the details.)

Since my triathlon, I have been doing really well with working out and TRYING my best to make healthier decisions about food. I say trying because I still love ice cream and the occasional chicken wing. I normally HATE any type of workout class and I have tried them all. However, I have added a class two days a week that I absolutely love. It’s a Total Body Sculpt Class that focuses on every part of the body and incorporates weights, push ups, sit ups, squats, lunges….just old school exercise for an hour. The instructor is no joke. She yells at you like boot camp and I guess I must like the tough love aspect cause I am there every Tuesday and Thursday at *cough* 5:30am. I am a glutton. Last week, my soror and I were in class and she had us doing these killer leg lifts and after the gazillionth one, one lady put her leg down to rest and the instructor yelled out “Oh no, there is no resting. You made that leg the way it is, you better be able to lift it!” We fell out cracking up…..so true! I am also pushing myself to do more weights and lighten up on some of the cardio. (See Leah, I do listen!)

I have been doing lots of swimming. I am amazed that I can swim as well as I do in the ocean. I think I am swimming better now that I am not worried about having a goal when I get in the water. Now it’s more for my enjoyment. Go figure.

The best part about working out is that I am so much more confident in the way my body looks right now. Short shorts, bikini, sundresses…you name it and I have worn it this summer without a second thought about rolls, back fat or muffin tops. I feel transformed and I swear, I am not going back. It’s a lifestyle bytches!

Did I mention that I quit drinking coffee cold turkey and have been coffee free for the last 3o days? Can you believe it????? I admit, I miss my coffee. I miss it more than when I gave up soda. Coffee is more a relaxation ritual for me. It’s been tough but I am determined to keep it going. And for the record, tea SUCKS.

Tali 2 got teased by one of his camp mates for calling me “Mommy”. They told him that only babies call their mothers “Mommy”. He told them “I can call MY mom whatever I want.” LOL….I love that boy. He takes no mess.

I am gearing up for back to school and school uniform shopping. HATE IT.

My mom is coming for a week at the end of August. I cant wait to hang with her. We are taking the kids to either Dorney Park or Hershey Park….Shhhhhh!

  1. Working out does make you feel better and love how you fit your clothes. Tali 2 is right about calling you what he wants. My oldest are 26 and they still call me mommy!

  2. Unbelievable (not really), that there is a lack of participation for Robotics. They offered that as an extracurricular at Mikaela’s middle school and she enrolled herself and we gladly paid the fee. Damn shame more parents don’t enroll their kids in science and math oriented programs.

I almost completely eliminated cardio from my workout regimen and exclusively doing strength training now. I’ve lost 14 pounds in the last 2 months. Amazing what your body reacts to!

  3. Robotics sounds awesome! Wish I could come! Congratulations on kicking coffee! I have successfully thwarted all attempts to get me addicted and I intend on staying that way! I only drink it when I’m sleepy and need to be awake. As a result, MAN does it work on me!! WHOA! I imagine it’s like getting a good hit of some high-powered illegal drug. Yes, tea sucks. I can’t tolerate bad instructors and I don’t like slow or quiet stuff. I HATE EXERCISE BIKES. Other than that, I like classes. LOLOL Those kids better watch out. He’s gonna have them bullying people into ironing their clothing, too. VIVA LA REVOLUCION!!!!

  4. WTG Tali 2!!!! that’s right you call your Mommy whatever you want!!!!

Sigh my entire comment was eaten.. ARGH..

No summer Jr. NSBE camps in your area but they do have a regional & local chapters.. sending you the link.

WTG on adding more weight bearing exercise to your routine!!!! Yay for swimming more confident!!!

now you gave up coffee for 30 days already?? I wanna read about how you reacted to ppl during the 1st 7 days :)

  5. I never got into coffee but one day I drank some because I was cold and I had also taken claritin-D. I was practically juggling at my desk.

I forced myself to stop calling my mother “mommy” when I was a teen. I call her Ma now but my brother and I both refer to her as Mommy when she isn’t around. That’s her name as far as I’m concerned!

That would be a shame if robotics is canceled! Is it only for boys?

  6. Delurking for a second… I’m 39 and I still call my mother “Mommy”…doesn’t matter if I’m talking to her or talking about her to someone else. Mommy is her name as well as her title. :D

  7. It’s sad that more parents aren’t involving their children in the robotics program. Math and science are the main areas where kids have trouble. Way to go for kicking coffee! The flavored teas aren’t that bad–I drink green tea with mango and put condensed milk and brown sugar in it. When I drank coffee, it looked like tea anyway. I hope my son will be able to stand up for himself like Tali 2 when the time comes!

  8. You let Tali know that is very West Indian to call you mommy ;) And as someone who still calls her father ‘daddy’ I fully approve.

I go to a similar body sculpting class. The changes are reflected on the scale, but definitely in terms of how my clothes fit. I joke that I am on my to having Michelle Obama arms.
