I left the house at 7am to go to my service project today. I met up with my sorors at the Supermarket and took our shopping lists and our money and shopped. Each one of us was shopping for a family in need. We planned on feeding 30 families in the Philadelphia area. On my list was a 13 pound turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, vegetables, sweet potatoes and an apple pie.
After purchasing the requested items, we met at our designated location to box up the items for the delivery. A different team of sorors was responsible for delivering the food door to door.
Later in the day, we all met up at a local food bank and helped to package meals for the Holidays for visitors that would inevitably come through their doors in the next few days.
I was so mindful of what Thanksgiving is all about. Sharing abundance, being with your family and preparing a meal with love. That’s it. One simple meal.
While I make spreadsheets full of the very best ingredients, someone else wanted $50 worth of groceries to cook a simple meal for their family.
I am humbled by the experience and thankful that I was able to help.
My life is good and for that, I am grateful. Happy Thanksgiving Week.
What a way to put it all in perspective! Amen!
I agree… great way to put things into perspective!
Love the new blog look!
As I was shopping for 90 ingredients to make a few dishes, and looking at supermarkets shelves filled to the brim with products of every variety, it all really sunk in. I take this all for granted. I am so blessed to be able to shop, have variety, and be able to pay for it. This Thanksgiving and from now on I’m going to be more mindful of those that don’t have and thinking about what I need to do to change that.
Sometimes I lose sight of how blessed I am. Thanks for posting this. Enjoy your Thanksgiving.
I’m so glad you do these service projects – and then share them with us. It does make you think – and gosh, that $50 for a meal doesn’t go that far these days. Food is so expensive. It’s wrong how pricey a good un-processed food meal is these days.
I agree…less is better and ‘more for others” is ALWAYS the BEST recipe.
