I know, I know….

Standard

I have been neglecting my poor blog. I have a good excuse though…I am currently on my third day in Pittsburgh on my monthly business trip to visit my accounts. See, I am not really slacking. I am actually working…so there!

What’s been happening people? I don’t know about you but I had a ROUGH week last week. My aunt who had the massive stroke?  If you recall, I did an entire tribute to her on the day they pulled the plug on her life support. Well, it turns out, she didn’t die after we did that. She lay in a vegetative state. The doctors told us it may take hours or days until her body gives out. Well after a week, her body started to respond to various stimulus. All of my aunts, my uncle and my mom…became extremely hopeful. They started making arrangements to get her transfered to the east coast from California….well, she passed away last Friday on my baby brother’s birthday before they could get her here. She died in LA with no family by her side. My mom called me in near hysterics. It was indeed rough.

I called my Dad in Trinidad to let him know. Despite he and my mom not being together, he grew up in the same neighborhood with their family and he was friends with all of my mom’s sisters. Well during that call, he let me know that my grandmother is not doing well. Her health has been fading and she is showing the first signs of Alzheimer’s.

I hung up the phone and got another call that my Grandmother in New Jersey wasn’t doing well after losing her daughter.

*SIGH*

It’s been bad news after bad news. My spirits have been down dealing with all of these emotions. FYI….the threat of more snow tomorrow is NOT helping me to feel better.

Hope all of you are having a better week. What’s Good?

Dumbazz of the DAY

The Media. The Paparazzi. Etc.

Today is Tiger’s press conference. The media is all hot about the fact that he won’t allow them to ask any questions. That he didn’t invite certain people. Wah, Wah, Wah.

Tiger will probably announce the only thing pertinent…”He’s sorry and he wants to come back and just play golf.”

CASE CLOSED.

The only person allowed to ask him questions is HIS WIFE. PERIOD. (And anyone that pays him money to support their brands, cause he works for them.)

That man’s personal life is none of our business. He’s a golfer. Why is he the lead story for today? *sigh* Do better people.

Straight outta BKLYN

Philly, I don’t hate you. I like the city. I like the passion the residents have for their hometown, their sports teams, their food. I like the music scene and all of the great museums and culture. You’re okay.

I don’t mind living here. It’s a great place and we have a great life. Sometimes though, I find myself missing my hometown. I miss Brooklyn.

Food? I miss the real deal Caribbean delights.

I miss hanging out with my best friend and sitting in her store window talking to all of the neighbors that stop in.

I miss the beauty amidst the New York grime.

Most of all? I miss the attitude. It’s a Brooklyn state of mind.

(and yes, that’s our actual sign).

The Weekend Recap

Standard

On Saturday, Mr. 1969 actually got to leave our abode and head out on an actual date. Thank you God for our dear friend who watched our two boys so we could have some grown folks fun. Do you know how hard it is to find a babysitter on Valentine’s weekend? Especially for two boys? *sigh*

So we dropped the boys to her house for their sleepover. When we drove off, we had big plans. We headed off to World Cafe Live to celebrate Carnaval by listening to Alo Brasil.

The band was fabulous. Most of my pictures were blurry so I apologize in advance but hey, it’s hard to take pictures while getting your samba on.

Mr. 1969′s favorite part?

The highlight for me was when they did a tribute to Trinidad Carnival. They played the Steel Band. My favorite…especially since I knew I was missing panorama in TNT at that very minute.

All in all, we had a great time and I highly recommend seeing Alo Brasil if they come to your city. They put on a great show and literally had the whole place jumping. I felt like I had a little taste of Carnaval right here in Philly.

On a side note, coming in at 3am after drinking the nastiest sugar cane Brazilian cocktails ever was not the hotness. I’ll stick to some good old Trinidadian Sugar Cane RUM thank you very much. Needless to say, I woke up with a crazy headache on Valentine’s Day. Coffee and Tylenol saved my life. I swear, I am getting old. I used to come in at noon after a long night of dancing on speakers to “Break for Love” at the Sound Factory, sleep for three hours and then head out again. Damn you Father Time!

Hope everyone enjoyed their Valentine’s weekend.

I am planning my escape from Homecatraz tomorrow at daybreak. Gym, Pedicure, sipping Starbucks at my leisure….yup, I’ve earned it. After three days snowbound with the Tali’s…tomorrow morning, I plan on breaking out before the rest of the inmates awake for chow.

I don’t know how you stay at home mommies do it. Whew! Let me go get you all a trophy right now! Those kids got on my last nerves. Between cries of “I’m Bored” and “I’m Hungry” I thought this week would never end.

It’s so bad I did laundry! When I resort to laundry, you know I’m at the end of my rope.

Tomorrow, it’s all about ME! Not to mention, the Mr. and I have major plans for the evening that involve dressing up, cocktails, salsa/samba dancing and more cocktails. I can’t share until after the fact but yes, we will be out acting grown and single.

Happy Hallmark Valentine’s Day to everyone.  Catch you next week!

Snowtorious

Standard

I am sitting here trying to come up with something witty to write about. Truth be told….I am trapped in my house after getting hit with 29 inches of snow over the weekend, 6 more inches last night and another 12-18 inches expected later today.

The boys are in my office going stir crazy and bouncing off the walls. *sigh* Their Daddy is home too. You think they want to play with him? Nope. They are up under me, following me around, as usual. Luckily for me, I found a bag of magnets and they are currently playing with them, totally entranced. Next year, Santa will be bringing them a bag of rocks, two magnets, a piece of  wire and  a rubber band and I swear they will play with it quietly for hours.

Before I go any further…allow me get one thing off my chest:

I HATE SNOW!

There, now that you all know….I feel so much better. This weather makes me feel trapped. Hell, I am trapped. Trapped and depressed. I need sunshine.

It doesn’t help that so many of my friends have just landed in Trinidad for Carnival. Yep, I’m hating.

The highpoint of my day is that I purchased a beautiful Oven Stuffer Roaster over the weekend and I will be roasting that bird today. Roast chicken is one of my favorite things. Add a few baked potatoes and some veggies and that will amount to good eating. Yeah….the day’s highpoint is food. *crickets*

Hope you are all safe and sound and not out in this nasty weather. How are you enjoying being snowbound?

Yup…those are my kids.

Tali 1: Mom, do you like everything about your job?

1969: Not always, why?

Tali 1: I have a new job in school and it’s really hard.

1969: What is it?

Tali 1: I have to erase all of the boards and they are much taller than I am so it’s hard to do.

1969: Well, you get to change jobs every two weeks right?

Tali 1: Yes.

1969: So you really only have to do a tough job for a short time. I think if you try your best, you’ll be okay.

Tali 1: Yeah. I think so. It’s only for a few days and I already missed a day because of the snow.

TALI 2: Mom…I have a hard job at my school.

1969: You do? What is your job Tali 2?

TALI2: I have to eat all of the snacks for two weeks.

1969: Wow! I bet you do a really good job at that.

TALI 2: Yup. I do. I always eat all the snacks. I’m the best one.

*sigh*

Pre-Snow Musings

Standard

So the big storm is coming. Last night, Mr. 1969 and I took the boys out for dinner. We figured since we may get trapped in the house for most of the weekend that we would enjoy a little outing.

After dinner we stopped by the panic zone the supermarket for a few superbowl items. Some of you people need to bring it down a notch. Doesn’t it snow every year in the Northeast? What exactly are you going to do with five loaves of bread, six gallons of milk and 8 dozen eggs for the next two days? Get a grip!

Today, I woke up at 6am and headed out to the gym. I usually workout on Saturday and Sunday mornings as part of my weekend ritual. I figured I would at least fit in one day in case I can’t get out tomorrow. At the gym, I saw my boyfriend. I tried so hard to get a picture but failed. Hey, I was on the treadmill and didn’t want to break an ankle just for your amusement. He was wearing a terry cloth headband, A gray hoodie sweatshirt, track shorts and socks pulled up to his knees. *sigh* I swear he looked like an 85 year old Napoleon Dynamite and as soon as he saw me? He waved and smiled and came over to say “Good Morning”. I am a magnet I tell you!

Anyway, I am back in the crib, pot of coffee brewing, logged in and working….about to take a nice hot shower. I swear….life is good.

Who’s ready for some snow and the superbowl?
