Taking care of self

Standard

I have a confession to make. The entire month of August? I totally slacked off on my exercise routine. I did jog most weekends, but I fell off my morning routines and trust me, I noticed a major difference in the waistline. I started losing all of my tone that I had worked so hard for. I think it was a combination of the heat and my slight anxiety about work.

After I came back from my girl’s weekend, I returned rejuvenated and have been kicking butt ever since. “We fall down, but we get up!”

The last two weeks, I have been back to running about three days during the week and early Saturday mornings. On Sunday mornings, I look forward to my 2 mile walks with Melonie.

So this past Sunday, Mel and I went walking. I was wearing black yoga capris, a tank top and a baseball cap cause it was misty outside and my curls would not have cooperated (Chaka Khan…Chaka Khan). You know, straight bummy.

We did our walk and on the way back, stopped at our local Starbucks for breakfast. Over coffee and multigrain bagels, I glanced down and lo and behold….your girl Melonie was wearing a shiny pair of coach sneakers.

Blogland? Who wears Coach sneakers to workout? Can you guess which one of us is the size two? LMAO! My azz was in straight power workout mode and Mel is in “I’m just a Diva”  status.  Did I mention those joints were PINK?

Either way. I am on vacation this week and just got back from running with Tali 1. It feels so good to whip this body back into shape. My whole mindset wasn’t right and now my head feels clear.

I truly believe that my frame of mind is tied to my workout schedule. Now that the Fall is approaching and the cooler weather is back, I am so looking forward to the feel of that crisp air against my face and the wind at my back.

  1. I totally understand how you feel. Since I decided to run this 1/2 marathon I’ve been soooo excited. I ran for many years and found it hard to get back into it after having Cole. But now when I have days when I can’t get a run in I feel soooooo BLAH YUCK!

I haven’t lost weight, but my thighs are more toned. My waistline is slimmer. And I feel really good aside from the little aches you sometimes get from challenging your body.

Saturday we had to do 10 miles on the Lakefront. I hated to get up for a 6 ma run. But when I got out there and the water was calm, I was facing the most gorgeous sunrise, and the air was cool I felt awesome.

    Bring on the fall running!!!!

  2. Get it Mel! My flat feet would have been dying without heavy duty arch supports! LOL

I feel you on slacking off. My body has become so use to my routine, that if I miss more than 2 days working out, I pay for it.

  3. LOL@Mel and her pink Coach sneakers!! Get it girl!!!

I just started training for a 10k. I’m not a runner and never really cared for it, but I’m excited about it…even if I hate getting up Saturday mornings to train. Once I get out there though, I’m good. I just have to get out there on my own and do it. I plan on doing some running/walking when I get off work.

  4. LOL @ the pink coach sneakers.. since ya’ll only walked 2 miles I am assuming no pain right?

I fell off my training for the 10 miler and by mile 5 I truly felt it!!!! the hills were no joke.. but we shall overcome.. that fall running is the best.. its like your mind is clear of whatever when that cool crisp air hits u in the face!

  5. I can’t go 2 days without a workout. My body and mind won’t allow it. I have been known to CALL IN SICK if necessary, and spend the whole day exercising. Or say I have a dentist appt, so I can get 2 hours in the gym.
(I own the business, so no one is going to fire me….but still….I can’t admit to my staff that I am not coming in so I can work out. I don’t want them tryin that. LOL)
