The Randomness

Standard

I am working from home today since Tali 1 has no school. If ever I needed a day out of my office, this is it. My boss and I have been at odds for the last two weeks. My mid-year review is tomorrow and it shall be veddy interesting to see what she has to say.

So in an effort to de-clutter my mind of all craziness….today you get random thoughts.

The ECONOMY is effed the eff up. We will be cutting back big time on a whole lot of stuff. Less spending. The holidays will probably be pretty conservative this year.

Like Mr. Rock said this weekend in his H.B.O special “How did we invade a country with so much oil and our gas prices are still high?” Hmmmm.

Jennifer H.ud.son……how can you be engaged to a man that has locked lips with Ne.w Y.or.k? You’re an Oscar and Grammy winner. Damn.

Remember Troop? Not the group, the clothes. I bet you only people from Brooklyn can tell me what that acronym stands for and who was behind that clothing line….LOL

Heroes was good last night. Guess who turned out to be brothers? And how many more powers can Sylar get?

If you haven’t started watching it yet….True Blood on HBO is actually pretty good. Oh….and Dex.ter is back  :)

My sons have entered the fighting stage. They fight and two minutes later, they’re playing again. *sigh*

Does anyone do the workouts that you can get on Demand? They’re pretty good. I will be Tae-Bo’ing at lunchtime.

The Eagles and Cowboys lost this week. Hmmm…I wonder who’s on top in the division? :)

Why am I already looking forward to Thanksgiving?

Easy Does It….

Standard

On Friday we took Mr. 1969 out to dinner at one of our favorite local diners. After burgers, fries, ice cream and chocolate cake we headed home to catch the debate. On our way, we got a call and family announced they would be coming by on Saturday and spending the night.

We woke up yesterday and headed out to soccer, when we returned, the family rolled through and we headed out for sushi to celebrate Mr. 1969′s birthday (it’s tomorrow). Afterwards, we gave him a case of beer and let him watch Penn State in peace.

Today, after breakfast, the family left. I finally had a minute to breathe and all I wanted to do was run outside in the fresh air. The problem? It was raining. I had been looking forward to running all weekend. *sigh*

Finally, I decided to do like N.I.K.E and just do it. I threw on my windbreaker and my Mets hat and headed off to the track.

When I got there, another man was running in the rain. He was cool as a cucumber. Earphones in, rain jacket on, he was in a comfortable zone as he jogged around at a smooth pace.

Relieved that I wasn’t the only insane person, I started jogging. I settled into a groove and felt all the stress of the week melting away. My head was cleared and I felt myself relaxing.

As the rain hit my face, I thought about things I needed to do in the upcoming week. I thought about my husband and my kids. I thought about my life. As I thought, I just kept moving.

When I finally looked at my watch….I had done my two miles. In the rain.

I came home, took a warm shower and threw on some pajamas and socks.

I think I will be taking the rest of the day off and watching football on my couch with the men in my life.

Sometimes, I admit to taking small things for granted. Today is not one of those days.

The Bytchazzness Award….

Standard

Today’s award will be handed out to…drumroll………………………….

SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN!!!!

Who is advising this man? Or better yet, is the Maverick just advising himself? Making his own calls? First the selection of Palin and now this?

When I got the email from CNN yesterday that he was suspending his campaign to work on the economy (and thus suspending the debates)…..I literally laughed out loud in the street. People turned around and looked at me like I was crazy. So if I’m getting the side eye….imagine what McCain’s fellow Republicans are doing.

Members of his own party are starting to distance themselves from him. The old fear tactics again……”we will be in a depression by Monday.” Really?

What’s that sound? Oh…..I think McC.ain has just shot himself in the foot ladies and gentlemen.

And you thought Cl.ay Aik.en was funny yesterday?

Not a good day….

Today is starting out on the wrong foot. My husband got news that his company will have upcoming layoffs and we don’t know if his team will be safe or not.

In addition, my boss has been on the rampage for the week. My co-worker and I have been bearing the brunt of it. I woke up to about ten urgent emails from her.

If you can spare some prayers today…..I appreciate it.

Philadelphia Story

Standard

Trinidad is my birthplace and New York is my heart. Philadelphia is my new home. We have been in Philadelphia for 8 years now. We chose this city as it was midway between both of our families and it is becoming our home.

My two sons were born here and they rep for this town. Like most cities, it’s a blend of regular people mixed in with the well to do.  The black folks are very active in their service organizations and they network in a very small and tight knit community. Everyone knows everyone and it’s all about who you know.

The poor folks in Philadelphia are struggling. The public schools are atrocious and drugs plague our communities. With the school system in a shambles, the best way to make money is on the streets. Crime is violent in the North and certain West Philly neighborhoods. The kids need a break and can’t seem to catch one.

This city has one foot in the past and one foot in the future. This is the birthplace of freedom in this country. This city is trying to go wireless, expand its Convention Center and devlop its ports as a means to take us to the next level.

We have to hope that the old fashioned vices and ways of thinking don’t keep us back.

This is a town of fighters. From Rocky Balboa to their love of sports….they start every season with a heightened sense of optimism. They believe in the underdog and the art of the comeback.

I am enoying watching this city grow and being a part of its Renaissance. It can be tough here at times. Old fashioned attitudes are holding up progress. Often, I feel like an outsider but I am quickly becoming a part of the landscape.

I’m writing my own Philadelphia Story.

We do more before 1pm than most people do all day…

Standard

Thought you might like a glimpse into a typical Saturday with the Nineteen69 family.

We woke up and I made breakfast for the troops. Breakfast burritos filled with scrambled eggs, cheese, salsa and turkey sauusage. YUM!

After we ate, we all got dressed. Tali 1 had a big soccer game at 12pm but before that? Mr. 1969 was giving a speech at a small business/financial seminar at Bill Gates’ High School of the Future. The school is a phenomenal structure. All white and very modern.

When I say these kids are living large nowadays….check out the MARBLE in the girls bathroom…

I don’t know about you, but this stuff is nicer than my bathroom at home…LOL

The school also has a beautiful statue out front, see?

So after the speech and a quick change by Mr. 1969, we hightailed it outta there cause today was all about the SOCCER baby.

My superstar scored four goals today. Here is the best striker in the world regulating on the field.

And what was everyone’s favorite fish killer baby brother doing? Well since he insisted on getting fully dressed in his brother’s old soccer gear and since he THINKS he is playing when he runs on the sidelines….I will share a few shots of what he did while at the field. Please note, we found a NEW Eagles shirt so we could hide wash the other one.

At first he played hard. We kicked the ball around and he acted like he was the goalie.

But eventually…..he gave up.

Soccer makes you hungry and hey, he’s only three.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend…..

Smooches!
