The Hotel Chronicles

Standard

My company hosts an annual event for our top customers every year. Picture all of our best customers and a whole bunch of sales people trapped on a resort.

While not exclusive to the Hospitality Industry, I am sure you are aware that when sales people get to travel for business…..they tend to lose their everloving minds. Much less on a pleasure trip, near a beach or pool with unlimited alcohol.

One year, we were on the trip and so much debauchery occured that after the first two nights, I had to feign some type of ailment and hit my room early every night just to hide out and not have my name associated with any of the nightly shenanigans.

The first night, one salesperson from some random hotel, was totally inebriated wearing a baby doll dress with some thong underwear on bumping and grinding on the dance floor with a drunk customer. When he actually propositioned her…she hauled off and slapped him. The entire room was dead quiet.

She slapped a customer. *sigh*

Somebody ended up calling her boss who had to wake up and come downstairs and claim his salesperson. She came down the next morning all prim and proper in her suit working the trade show like nothing happened.

Another sales manager called me at 7am to tell me he brought home a male uh…”friend” and woke up to find his cash missing and he needed $20 to take a cab to the airport. *sigh* When I gave him the money ….he laughed and said “It was sooo worth it.” LMAO.

This doesn’t even get into the strip clubs, parties in people’s rooms, etc.

I enjoyed all of the travel while it lasted but I hated being privy to so much dirt on my fellow co-workers. There are just some things you never want to witness and then have to visualize while hearing them gush about their kids back in the office.

Today’s argument for eating right….

Standard

So a week ago, I started doing my A.bsD.ietForWo.men. I really like it and feel like it’s an eating liefestyle plan I can actually stick to. I am not hungry and I am making healthier choices. For me, a birthday is approaching (WEDNESDAY…hint, hint) and I am determined to age gracefully and live a long time.

If you need motivation to start your own exercise program, here are some motivational photos.

Re.v Ru.n

Did he have the kids or did Justine? We can do better!

SWV. Not looking bad but definitely a tad bit swole.

Yup……sticking to my regimen. Have a great weekend. Think about Rev Run before you eat that barbecue and potato salad this weekend.

The Red Suit Strikes Again

Standard

Today I had a meeting that was supposed to be a joint training between me and the Red Suited Wonder’s team. As the leaders, we were supposed to brainstorm together, prepare a presentation and then invite her team in for training.

Well, she was out of the office all last week. Yesterday, I set up a meeting with her to review what she wanted in the presentation and she had NOTHING.

“Whatever you think we need to focus on.”

**CRICKETS**

So today, I came in at 6:30am, finished up a Powerpoint, submitted a copy to my boss for review and from 9am through noon today….ran the training alone. Where was the Red Suited Wonder? Sitting there with her team offering no input.

At the end, she says “Thanks so much for putting together the deck and conducting the training.”

Conducting these trainings is part of my job. So of course, I made it happen….regardless of her lack of input. However, she is truly testing my patience.

I’m so pissed I’m considering hiring Tali 2 to put a hit out on her.

And did I mentioned she wore a head to toe TEAL suit. TEAL. That mess looked like 1986. UGH!

1969 on Film

Standard

Mr. 1969 and I recently had a discussion about black roles in film. Our favorite category is called the “Mythical Black Friend”.

You ever notice, how so many movies will not put us in lead roles, but we seem to play the all knowing, supportive or mythical black friend. We usually assist the lead in doing the impossible.

In St.ar W.ars, it was Bi.lly De.e W.illi.ams as La.ndo.

In The G.ree.n M.ile, it was Mic.hael Cla.rke Dun.can.

Shaw.shank Red.emption? Morgan Freeman.

Most recently, in S.e.x and t.he C.it.y, it was Je.nn.ifer Hu.ds.on playing St. Lou.ise.

Who are your favorite Mythical Black Friends on film?

The Randomness-What’s up with 1969?

Today I am celebrating my first intern free day in two weeks. My little Sarah is off to a wedding in New Hampshire. You know what that means, I can do whatever the heck I want to today without someone looking over my shoulder.

So what’s been going on? Let’s see….

Yesterday was Tali 1′s end of school program and he did well in his play. He also snagged two of these:

Two awards! One for Perfect Attendance (he was soooo proud). The second award was very cute. Every student got an award for something. One kid got an award for always helping the other kids with their Math, one for always smiling and having the best attitude. One kid got the “Jumping Bean Award” for his innate ability to never be able to sit still.**crickets** His mom laughed. Uh…..that’s not a good thing.

So Mrs. B got up and said “In our class, we have an interesting animal review every week. We have been focusing on identifying little known animals and their characteristics. One student in our class has a distinct ability for knowing almost every single exotic animal in our book before we even know what it is. Most of them, I have to look up and he’s usually right. So the award for “The Future Host of Animal Planet” goes to…..TALI 1.”

You know your boy had already walked up to the front of the room before she even said his name right? So humble…..LOL

I have been reading this book and I may start following the regimen. It’s pretty easy and doable. There is no counting calories (YAY), its all about eating. In fact, I will need to eat 6 meals a day. You even get one day to eat whatever you want. The meals will be smaller and focused on the right foods. All of the foods are accessible. So after I stock up at the Supermarket this week…..it will be on and popping. 6 weeks. I can do this.

On Saturday, off to see the H.ul.k. On Sunday, Girls day. My friend and I will be taking our girlfriend that lost her brother out for drinks lunch and pedicures. Should be fun…and then the 2nd swimming lesson for Tali 1.

Tali 2? *sigh* We are hoping he behaves.

Lastly….you know I keep telling you guys that I am an old man magnet right? You want proof? I am on the bus this morning and standing near the driver, waiting for my stop.

Driver : Did your husband tell you how sexy you look this morning?

Me: He tells me every single morning.

Driver: He needs to.

So I call my hubby when I get in and tell him about the exchange…

Mr. 1969: You’re only calling me cause it was some old man. If it was Bo.ris Kod.joe, this call would have never happened.

Me: If it was Bo.ris Kod.joe, I’d still be on the damn bus.

I love being a girl

Standard

I have always wanted sons. Even when I was a little girl, I remember telling my mom that I wanted to have nothing but boys in my house.

I just think little boys are the cutest things. Besides, as girlie as I am…..I am a tomboy at heart. Growing up, I lived in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. My long hair stayed in a ponytail. I would wear a baseball cap and some sneakers forsaking all other items of clothing every single day. As I got older, my appreciation grew for pretty dresses and shoes like a fine wine…..it had to sit and marinate. LOL

I am taking Tali 1 to see the Hu.lk this weekend. We had one of Mr. 1969′s friends over this past weekend. Why did we get into a huge debate about which superhero movie was the best? We both loved Ir.on.man, Spi.der.man, Bat.man Re.tu.rns and the X.men series. Then I got into a debate about the X.me.n vs Fa.nta.stic Fo.ur vs The Av.en.gers.  **crickets** My own husband just looked at me in awe and his friend declared me the greatest wife ever.

I can’t tell you how many times I have gotten into a football debate with some guy only to have to shut him down with stats. My husband usually just laughs and says…..”Bruh, you don’t want to go there with my wife. She is a real sports fan. For real.”

So I guess, having boys was a natural extension for me. I was the only granddaughter amidst ten male cousins. As a mom, I find myself sharing all of the comic book characters and story plotlines with my oldest. Hell, I even  watch the Po.wer R.an.ger Turbo movies with him. I know all of the aliens that Be.n 10 can turn into. I know all about spaceships, insects, dinosaurs and the wooshy finger hold.

Sometimes, I wonder what folks would say if they knew that the refined looking lady walking down the street in her power suit could debate for hours about who the best runningbacks in the league are and then whip up a batch of brownies?

I guess that’s the beauty of being a girl. We can do everything.

What legends are made of….

I love sports. I love what sports represents. Hard work, dedication and determination.

To excel at a sport, you have to work at your craft. You have to train, study, develop your strengths. You have to take on an opponent and outplay, outlast and outwit them. You have to believe that you can win. You have to have confidence and never give up.

This weekend, I watched the ultimate champion in a historic, defining championship. Even if you aren’t a fan of golf, you had to be in awe of Tig.er Wo.ods.

I have followed Ti.ger’s career since he started. I somehow just knew that this kid was destined for greatness. He had that aura about him. From the first time he slipped on that green jacket to yesterday’s hard fought victory, Tiger has proven that he is a winner.

To watch him play this past weekend in excrutiating pain and deliver horrible shots that could have made anyone just give up…..only to return with what can only be described as incredible shots. Putts that were unreal in their accuracy. Forcing the sudden death yesterday and snatching the victory from his opponent.

His will to NOT BE BEATEN is inspiring. He is the epitome of what sports is all about. Total strength of will. Thanks for a great tournament Ti.ge.r.
