Do you see this? This is the stuff that makes even the most confidant woman feel insecure. Magazines and shows that showcase perfect looking women. Always fabulous, always laughing. Wearing designer clothing and not a hair out of place.
It forces us to look in the mirror and become our harshest critics. “My skin is terrible, I have bags under my eyes, are those wrinkles?”
Now if magazines would show real, untouched pictures once in a while….
I know I would feel better. How about you?

If the first picture wasn’t there I probably would have no idea who in the world that is. And what does that do to somebody to only have photos of you that aren’t who you really are out there in the world?

I can’t even be mad at her. You will NEVER see a picture of me on my site without hair done and face on. But that is who I am. Just like it’s who I am when I’m home in a ponytail and a scrubbed face. People are multi-faceted. I don’t think she looks bad, just regular. She still has pretty flawless skin and decent body. I don’t know how much “untouching” I want to see and then again, I guess it would depend on what is being advertised.

Erica….I think she looks fine without makeup. She’s still an attractive woman with a great body. I am like you in that I try to leave my house pulled together at all times but there are times when I run out with no makeup at all too. I think women of all ages would appreciate seeing women in magazines and on TV sometimes as normal people. It makes them more human and givesus more achievable standards of beauty.

It certainly makes me feel better to know that there are days when these gorgeous women look like regular everyday women. It is alot of work to look like the first picture everytime u walk out of the house.

I would be happy if Advertisers, Magazine editors and photographers would just be honest and tell the young ladies that ALL magazine photos are touched-up. And as far as fashion and beauty magazines, some pictures are not just “touched” they are moved and altered…eyes set futher apart, hairline moved, complexion changed..etc.
I’m good, I know the deal. I just wish that they were more truthfull with these young ladies out here who get their definition of beauty from Madison Ave.
I don’t go to the mailbox without my face-on. lol

I thought she was pregnant? Either way she looks great although a little pale in her non make up shot.

This is the lesson I am trying to instill in my daughters.

Yup - just knowing they don’t ALWAYS look like that, and without all the special effects and touch ups they look like the average girl on the street. Also gives hope in the reverse that even the most average looking gal can clean up impressively with a bit of effort. But even the best make up and hair artists cannot produce that first picture. That photo has been further altered! And really, it’s just not necessary.

Let’s look at the bigger picture. Yes, Kimora got caught without her usual made-for-tv/red carpet look. No, problem here. But the issue is when Madison Ave (The big bad marketing machine) or Hollywood puts out a look/style and implies that if you do not look this way, you will not be invited to the prom or the exclusive party- men will not find you attractive. This creates an external pressure for young women (all races/ethnicities) to conform to the “standard.” Moreover, even some successful women (educated/career oriented) fall into this fallacy. How can Dr. West (rest her soul), with all of her accomplishments, feel pressured (whether it was external or internal) into undertaking optional surgery?
Now 17 years ago, I was all for a woman done up with the makeup and hair always on point, dressed nicely- and no intellectual stimulation required!
Fast forward- As a more mature man, those things would not be a priority in looking for a mate (if I were single). Yes, it would be nice if a woman had some external beauty (in the eye of the beholder), but what is her internal beauty? Can she have a decent conversation without using expletives and slang? Does she complement me as a person; or, if we are out with friends or business associates, make me look even better than if I was by myself. The makeup, clothes, and everything else have to be removed sooner or later. Right?
This goes for men also.

You know why this is funny? Because when she’s all dolled up she looks like a transvestite. I think she looks more like a real woman when she’s dressed down.

Makes me feel normal to know that everyone has “days”.

I’m with chele. I prefer her out of drag. As a teen, I skipped the pain? drama? of looking to Hollywood to define beauty. But three kids and lots of pounds later, I’ve gotten a little bit caught up. Now, I don’t want to be a size 0, but a single digit size sounds nice. I do my best not to compare (and I never do it around my daughter, especially), I’m working on it!

HAHAH…all us Blasian girls are PALE without cosmetic products! I just think it’s nice to see Kimora without all the extra hair. I’m not all that surprised that she looks the way she does without her face on because that’s how I look without MINE on…
Although she can afford the good shit and and the professional application. I personally don’t care for her, but I like the fact that she’s not RAIL THIN…she’s normal - whatever THAT is…

Since I work in the industry I know how much it costs to get women “camera ready” and for someone like her it’s probably upwards of $5,000. Not only are the pictures photoshopped but there are a team of people who work hard to create an image to sell a product.
I know of a certain recently married pop star who has someone air brush her ab’s to make it look like she has a six pack while on stage. that certain someone’s cost for hair alone is $5,000. hell most male stars require at least $1000 worth of grooming before they go on camera.
Hollywood is all about making folks believe the hype!
Kimora is a gorgeous woman, which makes her even more beautiful all made up, but she can’t just have a gang of folks following her around to make her look pretty all the time, (like mariah carey lol)

I don’t think she looks that bad, she would look better if she was smiling and not looking like she just woke up. I like Kimora even though I think she is crazy. And I bet she doesn’t care at all about that pic getting out. I’d like to see more celebs like that…still pretty, just regular.

I like her MUCH BETTER without all of the special effects. She’s beautiful but also accessible. The first photo gives me shades of Rupaul.
