I had another one of those weekends where I was trying to squeeze too much into two days. I woke up and tried to get my workout on. I needed to clean my house, do laundry, cook, grocery shop, take the boys out to play, agreed to watch my friend’s son for the night, fit in a pedicure, etc…. Yeah, I was on “to do” list overload.
After ripping and running, I finally sat down on the couch, exhausted, while I watched my son and his friend destroy my house. Toys were thrown everywhere as they laughed and chased each other. I finally gave up and just decided to let them tire themselves out.
My littlest Tali, sat in a corner and played by himself. Suddenly he got up and climbed the stairs. I figured he had to go to the bathroom. When he marched back down the stairs, I saw that he had completely changed clothes. He was now wearing a pair of his big brother’s basketball shorts that were reaching him right over his ankles. He was also wearing his Ea.gles football shirt. He had it on backwards. He walked over to his toys, sat down and resumed playing.
I watched him as he continued to play all by himself. He wasn’t concerned with the bigger boys not including him in their games. He simply found his own toys and made himself happy. When he decided that he needed to change clothes…he found some that worked for him. He never does too much, he just does what he needs.
Who said you can’t learn things from your kids?
My kids focus on the simple pleasures of life. Much like I did when I was a kid. Just having your favorite shirt or a friend was enough to make your day.
When things didn’t go well, we found something else to make us happy. The sadness never lasted for long.
I really need to work on simplifying my happiness. Everything I could ever want is right here at Casa 1969.
Now if only he would wear a GIANTS shirt.

Why am I laughing at the thought of Tali 2 changing clothes all of a sudden? They are so entertaining to just watch at that age. Just make sure you take time to breath will you’re marking off the “to do” list!

Awwwwwwwwww they are so sweet Sixty!! I am extra emotional this Monday so this made me cry (along with Robin Roberts pulling off her wig for good on GMA this morning). We really do forget that simple is better…life is only complicated because we make it so but children in all their innocence have the best prespective on life. This was a special post…just as special as your beautiful boys.
Thanks for sharing Sis!
P.S. Go EAGLES!!!

I think your simplicity shones through your writing style (voice). I’ve always said that you write with such a serene voice. Simple, yet your points pack a lot of punch. I heart that. You are a natural. *Queue Al Green/Queen Latifah, Simply Beautiful* LOL

“Now if only he would wear a GIANTS shirt.” LOL
Tali 2 knows what time it is!! Go Eagles 2009 Super Bowl….LOL…my medication is wearing off.
It took me and my bestest a few years to get it through our heads that that house can be tore-up sometimes, but the kids will only be little for a short time. After that, saturday morning house work was surface clean the downstair (cause that’s what people see) and then hit Fairmount park with the kids. ***even hit the plateau in the mini van** Now YOU KNOW that was hilarious! LOL

Did you say GIANTS shirt in all big and bold for a REASON? You know…to stick it DEEP into the back of a friend?
*sigh*
I thought we were better than this 1969.

You gotta teach your kids discipline. You can’t let them rule you. So the next time he puts on that Eagles shirt, go pop him!!!!! (I bet you thought I was gonna say something about the kids destroying your house!!!)
*P.S. To all the parents out there ready to call child services on me….I’m joking *

SIP is crazy. LMAO. I was not even thinking of that.
I was reflecting on his father’s wayward influence on his football choices. Poor child. Well, somebody has to root for the Eagles……it won’t be me.
Fresh….he actually sings the Eagles song too. They have all been brainwashed by Mr. 1969. He got to them early.
Nina…all Redskins (and/or Cowboy) shirts would never cross the threshold of our humble abode. I still love YOU though.

That Girl Tam
Funny…LL used to do that too. It’s a trip to watch my boys play – by themselves and with each other. LL went thru a phase of changing his clothes 4-5 times A DAY…just because he could. And he’d go back to doing whatever it was he was doing before the change.
I just walked in (a few minutes ago) from picking up Subway and LL answered the door with only a shirt on…holding his underwear and shorts in his hand.
::blank stare::
He had the BIGGEST grin on his face yelling, “HIIII MOOMMMMMMMYYYYY!!”
Kids…gotta love’m
