When TV was funny and/or entertaining?
You couldn’t miss an episode of Satur.day Nig.ht Li.ve with Eddie Murphy on it. Remember Ja.mes Br.own Celebrity HOT TUB?
Remember Ch.ris Far.ley and P.atr.ick Sw.ayze trying out to be Ch.ippen.dale’s dancers? CLASSIC. One of the funniest things I have ever seen on tv. Ch.ris Far.ley killed it!!!!!
Thursday nights, the Cos.by Sh.ow, Diff.erent Wo.rld lineup? Families could watch TV together…there’s a concept.
And one of my favorite shows was N.igh.t Co.urt. That show was hilarious. Da.n Fie.ld.ing is one of the great TV characters. I loved him.
The show I really miss? Ar.sen.io H.a.ll. Corny as he was, every fly, up and coming musical act debuted on his show. From the first time I saw Ma.ri.ah sing Vision of Love live to J.ode.ci…..he featured everyone and gave them a break on National TV. I stayed up late to catch Ar.se.nio and I know you did too. (Well, those of you near my age).
What do we have now? Reality TV. No family shows where the kids are respectful…cause all of the parents on TV are currently idiots and the kids are clearly running things.
90.210 and the re.al wo.rld have been replaced by The H.ills, Sw.eet Six.teen and G.oss.ip Gyrls. Where all the kids are filthy rich, and again…the parents spoil them or get treated like idiots.
Where did we go wrong? Yesterday in Philadelphia, four teenaged boys beat and killed the manager of the Starbucks I frequent. He was 36 and was jumped on a subway platform by four sixteen year olds trying to rob him. He fought back and ended up going into cardiac arrest. He died at the hospital.
I don’t know what is happening to our youngsters. I don’t know when they lost the respect they had for others or for themselves but they are definitely lost.
Another innocent man, who was due to get married later this year, has lost his life.
America, we need a reality check and I know we won’t find it on reality tv.

That’s terrible about the Starbucks mgr.
Have you noticed that badazz kids are embraced now? Everytime you turn on the tv and see a commercial, there is some rotten kid getting away with bloody murder and the parents think it’s cute.

Exactly. The kids are taking over the house and the parents are letting them.

I was just had a similar entry the other day…
I guess I’m younger than most people but…even game shows are terrible these days. From Supermarket Sweep to that show that asks questions like “do you think your wife finds you attractive even though you’re overweight”…(I forgot what it’s called)
From Double Dare to Fear Factor?
Even the Price is Right….I was YouTubing some episodes from the 70’s…show case showdown was like 3500…I saw a recent version and it was worth 60,000!
Really?!
Also…
I miss TGIF…watched every Friday age 5 to 15…wholesome family programming with the “moral of the story” music and everything.
Unfortunately I don’t even think those wholesome shows COULD do well these days…

My 17 year old was watching The Family Guy the other day. A show that I absolutely LOATH!!! Anyway this show comes on TBS and before prime time. I heard the main character use the word fel.l.a.tio!!! And this is a friggin cartoon character. I was floored. I almost went over and put my foot through the TV screen. I asked my son if he knew what the word meant. Of course he didn’t, so once more it was time for Mom to have a real world convo with know-every-dayum-thing-teenager. I HATE TV!!!!

OMG that is aweful about the Starbucks Manager. Kids these days need to really get a grip, it seems they are getting badder and bolder. TRAGIC!!!
I was just wondering what happened to the TV shows, I mean the writers have been back for a while, but still all we get is more reality shows. What’s really going on?

I am with you on the children these days. It is Spring Break here this week and my Monday evening set it off. About 10 boys aged 8-12 set four fires in the back of the bus. After 3 small fires, the driver stopped the bus and approached them. The bus resumes, two of them start fightinging in the stairwell. The fight ends, and they lit the big fire. What were they burning, a spiderman pillow! They began jumping out of the back windows while the bus was stopped at a stoplight. The remaining boys seemed to be upset when everyone had to exit the bus.

No matter how much trouble I was in or how bad the day went, I could watch cosby and a different world and eat right in front of the tv with my plate in my lap and not at the table.

That is so sad!! But you are SO right! I had my SIL kids over the weekend so I had SIX kids in my house..she does NOT teach them ANYTHING!!! They were so ready to go when they left here because I do NOT believe in letting kids have their way. AT ALL.

And had the Starbuck’s MGR had a gun and shot one of them…he would have gotten life even though they jumped him because they are kids. *sigh* Whatever.
Television sucks so much I don’t even make an effort to watch. When I have time to actually watch I channel flip and usually end up on one of the Discovery channels.

Kids lost respect when parents lost respect for themselves and the job of being a parent.

So...Wise
As much as I love my reality shows…the reality is that TV is a reflection of society, a sign of the times. Families are eroding, so are their televised counterparts. *sigh*
(OMG Night.Court!!!)
