Flames Extinguished

Standard

We lost another sister.

This young lady graduated college, was starting her career as a Pharmaceutical Sales Rep. Bright, charming and living a life ripe with opportunity.

A few weeks ago, she filed for a restraining order against a man she had dated. Today, her body turned up. Another life possibly lost to violence.

Ladies, if you are in a relationship and you don’t feel safe. Your heart is restless. You walk around on eggshells. Please sit down and think about what you are doing. Is your life worth it?

You are probably living a life bright with promise and opportunity too. Don’t allow someone else to extinguish your flame.

Rest in Peace Ms. Franklin.

  1. it’s so sad that women fall prey to the hands of violence all too often. I think about what my father told me when I first started dating..he said that as long as he’s alive I don’t have to put up with any type of violence, I can always home. Then he told me that if he was gone and I found myself in a bind, to pour liquid draino down the dudes ear in his sleep and get a lawyer…

may not have been realistic but I am thankful my dad has been honest with me what violence can really do.

May she rest in peace and may her perp rot in hell!

  2. When I saw her picture on CNN ticker this morning my heart sank. My heart goes out to her family. Why so many women have to die at the hands of the men in their lives makes me so upset. The thing is you can realize a dude is crazy and leave, but that won’t stop them from tracking you down and killing you. Men are not crazy/scary in the beginning. They usually start out normal and the crazy starts sneaking in. Then you leave them, get a restraining order, but that can’t protect you from shit. The safety of women needs to be a priority. We need restraining orders that mean something. Stalking should be a seriously punishable offense instead of a joke.

  3. AMEN! Let me speak from experience – GET OUT! Just when you think you have nowhere to turn, put God first. Allow him to open up doors and pathways for you – and He will! Trust me.

What saddens me also is the system’s inability to protect those who’ve worked to draw attention to the potential dangers that face them. *sigh*
